The Captain’s tent

Come and meet Amaury de Beaufort, Captain of the Guard of Carcassonne! He’ll tell you all there is to know about garrison life: from the art of warfare (the soldiers’ equipment and armour), to all the aspects of daily life (hygiene, leisure, religion…). This enthralling workshop goes far beyond the usual cliches we hear about the Middle Ages!

Sword-fighting

Equipped with a sword and shield, the children are fully initiated in swashbuckling (attacking, parrying, evading…), before being put to the test by soldiers of the guard for a memorable battle!

What and how did the troops eat? In what order? What was it like to have a meal in the 14th Century? Join the head cook at their stall to hear fascinating facts and anecdotes about the customs, habits, and beliefs that went with food in the Middle Ages.

Archery

Starting with a look at the different bows (longbows and Turkish bows), how to handle them, and the different types of arrows used, the children continue their training to have a go at getting the bull’s eye in complete safety!
